A stunning world premiere about the life of undocumented immigrant Antonio Valdovino
Don't miss the hotly anticipated world premiere of groundbreaking new musical Americano at the Pheonix Theatre this winter. Offering a unique insight into today's turbulent and troubled times, it centers on the life story of local Phoenix resident Antonio Valdovinos, an undocumented immigrant who became a recipient of the DACA protective policy (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).
Directed and written by the Pheonix Theatre Company's Producing Artistic Director Michael Barnard with music by Austin singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez, the inspirational story begins when Tony, the child of immigrants, tries to enlist in the Marines. When he is turned away after he discovers his undocumented status, he sets out on a journey to confront the divisions within his family and American society. As of January 2020, Antonio's fate rests with a Supreme Court decision whether or not to strike down DACA, expected in June.
