A glittering 100th anniversary production awaits
Arizona Opera presents Leonard Bernstein's best-loved opera in a sparkling production helmed by Christopher Mattaliano and conducted by visiting maestro Joseph Colaneri, recently of the West Australian Opera in Perth. A continent-spanning romp, Candide follows the fortunes of its eponymous protagonist, who is banished from his land by a baron, only to become caught up in a plot to overthrow the very same baron by an invading army. Full of soaring arias and the rightly celebrated Overture, which has become one of Bernstein's signature pieces, Candide is a treat for opera and Broadway fans alike.
The musical features such songs as "Glitter and Be Gay," "Make our Garden Grow" and "The Best of All Possible Worlds." The production features tenor Miles Mykkanen in the title role and lyric coloratura soprano Katrina Galka as Cunegonde, visiting from the Marion Roose Pullin Opera Studio..
