Newsies - The Musical

Newsies - The Musical at Phoenix Theatre

Why see Newsies - The Musical?

An extravagant spectacular of song and dance for all the family

Newsies - The Musical is a compelling Disney Theatrical Production based on the 1992 musical film Newsies which was inspired by the real Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City which fought against unfair working conditions. Following the rousing story of rebellious newsboy Jack Kelly, who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big apple, the play combines dynamic dance choreography and a Tony Award winning musical score by Oscar winning composer Alan Menken.

Originally performed on Broadway in 2012, the musical has gone from strength to strength - picking up 23 major theatrical nominations and delivers high energy, punchy and non-stop thrills. Packed with catchy, hit tunes such as "Something to Believe In", "Brooklyn’s Here" and "King of New York." There’s never been a more relevant time to catch this politically charged upbeat musical.

The show will perform at the Phoenix Theatre from November 15th to December 31st 2017.

The King of Broadway!!

I've seen the performance of the play on Netflix and I was blown away! I'm one of the rare people who saw the movie when it was released and fell in love with it on the spot. I saw it most of the 14 nights it was in our local theatre, and waited impatiently for the VHS release. This Broadway version is not exactly the same as the movie, but it is EVERY BIT as good as the movie! The songs from the movie are still there, with slightly different lyrics, and there are several new songs. Jack's character is more in-depth than in the movie, and it adds so much interest to the already awesome story. I was excited when I saw it available on Netflix and was riveted from the moment the first note played right through to the very end. In the two days since I found it on Netflix, I've watched it at least 7 times! I live 5 hours away from Raleigh, but am already planning to travel there to see this (it's early March 2018) play as it's one of my favorite stories of all time! I can't wait! ... Read more
