The Tony-wining hit gets the Phoenix treatment!
Phoenix Theatre presents its first-ever production of the Tony Award-winning hit musical, Hedwig! Co-produced with A/C Theatre Company, this musical is second in an exciting 2017/18 season for the esteemed theater company and is considered to be one of the most progressive musical revivals in modern times. John Cameron Mitchell's creation is inspired by the music of David Bowie and Lou Reed, and offers audiences a ride on a glam-rock odyssey that follows the exploits of transgender singer Hedwig and the challenges she faces along the way.
Brilliantly exploring issues of gender politics, Hedwig is first and foremost an insanely vibrant and full-throttle musical marvel. The latest revival production of Hedwig exploded onto Broadway in 2014, starring Neil Patrick Harris in the lead role. Numerous A-list talent have donned Hedwig's sparkly pantyhose over the course of the run, including Michael C. Hall, Taye Diggs and the creator himself, Mitchell. Defying all expectations, the show won four Tony Awards and extended long past its initial 16 week run, eventually closing in September 2015 after a total of 18 months!
