Hit the high seas with Arizona Opera in this high-spirited production of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic pirate adventure, Pirates of Penzance! Conducted by Emily Senturia and directed by Kyle Lang, Brad Bickhardt stars as the protagonist Frederic. A delight for audiences of all ages since 1879, The Pirates of Penzance features a side-splitting, swashbuckling story with some of the duo's most beloved melodies, including the unforgettable lyrical labyrinth that is 'The Modern Major General's Song'.
The Pirates of Penzance introduces us to young Frederic, whose approaching 21st birthday means freedom from his apprenticeship to a band of wily pirates. When he meets the beautiful Mabel and falls head over heels, his release couldn't come quick enough. But the course of true love is as bumpy as the seven seas, especially when he discovers he was born on a leap year, meaning his 21st birthday technically isn't until he his 84!
