A story of struggle, hope, and bravery.
Coming to the Phoenix Theatre company this fall, the world premiere of Tiananmen: A New Musical. The show is conceived by Wu'er Kaixi, one of the leaders of the 1989 protests, and written by author Scott Elemgreen. Taking the directorial helm is Broadway alum, Darren Lee. A commentary on the necessity of bravery in the face of danger, Tiananmen: A New Musical is essential viewing.
What's it about?
The year is 1989, and we find ourselves in Beijing, China. Thousands of university students take it upon themselves to lead a revolution in the name of democracy. Returning to the site years later, the sister of the movement's leader tell the story of the time leading up to the protest and ensuing massacre, the events that led to the fateful day.
