Mr. Askins's black comedy about the divided human soul stands out as a misfit both merry and scary, and very welcome.

The Broadway smash hit comedy

Following its hugely successful Broadway run, Robert Askins' black comedy about a devilish puppet let loose on a Christian theatre group heads to Phoenix Theatre this fall. By turns hilarious and disturbing, it garnered glowing critical notices during its off-Broadway staging. This production is a collaboration with Stray Cat Theatre.

In the small town of Cypress, Texas, Margery is cajoling her group of unwilling participants to rehearse for an upcoming Christian puppet show. Among the reluctant volunteers is her son Jason, a shy delicate creature who harbors a secret crush for another of the puppeteers, Jessica. The rehearsal is thrown into chaos when Jason's hand puppet Tyrone suddenly takes on a life of his own, becoming a foul-mouthed, and increasingly vicious alter-ego whom Jason is unable to control.
