Why See Godspell?

What if Jesus lived in New York?

From Stephen Schwartz, the multi-award winning Wicked and Pippin composer comes his 1971 hit Godspell! Forming part of Phoenix Theatre's 2017/18 Broadway mainstage season, Godspell is the modern retelling of the greatest story ever told; the journey from birth to death, of one Jesus Christ. With the action taking place in modern-day New York, this enduring show is based on the Gospel of St Matthew and uses "improvisation and contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, (bringing) these lessons to life through the grand tradition of musical theatre."

With hit songs such as the Billboard #13 'Day by Day,'All For The Best,'Turn Back O' Man,' the legendary rock opera is guaranteed to satisfy, and have you humming the songs for days after! Originally conceived as part of John-Michael Tebelak's Masters project for Carnegie Mellon University in 1970, Godspell then went on to transfer to Off Broadway, finding massive success and running for 2,000 performances, not to mention the continual local, high-school and touring productions that all have a unique take on this wonderfully energetic show.
