BROADWAYWORLD

LIVE FOR BROADWAY! This show was amazing. Muscles everywhere! The Drill Sgt.s voice is commanding and powerful! Only way this little show gets to Broadway is that deep resonating talented Drill Sgt.

MY GOD THE MUSCLES!

Go for the nostalgia stay for the drill Sargent. Wow. That voice! The female lead Paula was remarkable too.

IT'LL LIFT YOU UP!

What a feel good story, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be surprised at how it's changed to an updated story of social justice.

WONDERFUL ESCAPE

Like everything there are +and -. But really glad to see live performance again! Lead characters were strong although range of Zac was not quite there, and what was that dolphin dance about? Paula was a talented a she was beautiful and played a sincere role. Lou Gossett role was well played by casting. Strong presence, foreboding character with the soft center we were all waiting for. Big shoes to fill, and by the 2nd act the shoes were overflowing. Bravo Mr. Wayne. Overall, a good production.

CORNY YET ENTERTAINING

80s wigs needed a good brush. Most voices were up to par although young male lead was weak when we needed a strong belt. Sargeant was phenomenal, my father felt like he was back at Paris Island. He really seemed to command the stage, all eyes on him or else! The young lady who couldn't get over the wall was a good choice. Great voice and smaller than average for a lead role so it was believable. But I don't think she could make it to Broadway.

DISAPPOINTED

I found the storyline hard to follow. The music seemed to not fit as well as the choreography. Lots of yelling and anger throughout the show. I too was disappointed that they changed the original story.

3.0 star rating Karen from Detroit, Michigan

DISAPPOINTED IN THE STORYLINE, DIFFERENT FROM THE MOVIE

I enjoyed the music from the 80s. I was disappointed in the woke narrative and even heard audible gasps from the audience at times. I truly wish they would of stuck with the original storyline. Singing was a bit pitchy too.

OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN

Should have named it WOKE2022. Ruined the original story line. Too long and very hard to follow. Saw many people looking at their watches and even falling asleep. The actor who played Mayo forgot the words to the opening song and knew he got caught. Song right before intermission woke people up. I would not recommend seeing this performance.

IT NEVER PULLED ME IN

I think the writer missed the mark. The show left me flat. It seemed disjointed without a comfortable flow. And why did Zach get carried around the stage doing the bicycle and swimming? Worse was the disco dancers during the battle simulation scene. How incongruous. Not the actors fault, it’s all on the writers. Very disappointed.

LACKLUSTER PERFORMANCE

This is the only performance my husband and I have ever left at intermission. I’ve been attending musicals most of my life and I found this one to be boring and some of the voices were lacking.

2.0 star rating Jeri B from Sacramento, California

MEDIOCRE

The music is fun and nostalgic. The acting was fine, the singing was just mediocre. The young woman playing Seeger had a fabulous voice. They story line was changed and I wish they would have just left it as it was in it's original form.

2.0 star rating Maria from Binghamton, New York

JUST NOT ENJOYABLE

The storyline was disappointing and diverted from the movie. Some of the singers had very good voices but the show was overly loud … almost painful at times. Some of the scenes were very disjointed and did not flow….. some of the choreography was just bizarre. There was really only one very good number with very good dancing choreography. This was not a good show.

2.0 star rating Charlotte Carr from Wichita, Kansas

DISAPPOINTED

The singing voices were hard to hear over the instruments; the actors talked too fast for me. It was not the quality I’ve come to expect from Broadway in Wichita, especially after the fabulous Fiddler on the Roof. Would not recommend.

NEEDED A BETTER MUSIC COACH — CHANGED STORYLINE TOO MUCH

Pitchy voices — a good musical coach and/or musical director would have been a blessing. Other than Paula’s mother, the female officer in training, Trey and a couple other minor roles, the voices were strained, off key and non-harmonious. The facial expressions were very sincere but the voices were so flat and off key at times that it was painful. Dancing was good except for the 80’s go-go dancers during the buttercup battle. That was ridiculous, distracting and irrelevant. Sets were very nice as were the transitions. But it was so difficult to overlook the lackluster acting and the strained voices and woke storyline. Why change the story? I hope they hire a musical director to get the voices and music on track. We loved Rain, waitress, fiddler on the roof and even Simon and Garfunkel. This one was disappointing. Just needs better direction and coaching. It was creative and sets were phenomenal.

AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN

I saw the original version of this musical in Sydney Australia in 2012. Why they nixed that version in favor of this one, I have no idea? The songs in the original were fantastic as were the acting and direction. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

DISAPPOINTED

Been to lots of musicals this one was very disappointed even for my theatrical major daughter was disappointed

WHY???

Why would you change a classic to fit today’s narrative. I was thoroughly disappointed as was my husband. He watched the original classic to prepare and we left after 35 minutes of nothing even similar to the original version. If I heard “prejudice “ one more time! Dear Lord why can’t we just enjoy a classic version of a movie that was so enjoyable. Never again. And to top it off, you couldn’t have food or beverages in theater. But, you could drink in another part of theater until showtime. Only problem was people were lined up 5 minutes before showtime ordering without knowing they couldn’t leave the area with their overpriced beverages. Disappointed and disgusted.

YOU SHOULD PASS ON THIS SHOW

I saw the show in Jackson, MS on 12-20-2021. The show was not good. They need a vocal coach. Most of the actors can sing, but they could not harmonize together. As they got louder their voices got worse. I would add that the music a random effort to fit the story line and does a poor job. I was willing to overlook the change in the story line to focus on social justice, but it is a bad story, with out of place songs, sung by sub par actors. And I should add that reading the playbill, for most of the actors this was their national debut.

ATHLETIC DANCING, OTHERWISE "MEH"

I have never in my long life every left a Broadway type musical at intermission. I did for this one. An Officer and a Gentleman making its road show stop in NW Arkansas this past week was a disappointment. The athletic choreography when the men were in their peak military performance was very good. But the blocking otherwise during less active moments and during singing especially was actually stiff, slow and stilted. Near the end of Act I I heard the famous duet "Up Where We Belong" and did not feel lifted. No need to hang around for the reprise in Act II. If this run is making a stop near your, I'd skip it.

OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN

The show was disjointed and difficult to follow. The music selection was poor. The voices were off key, could not hit high notes and at times sounded like they were screaming the lyrics. Very poor production. Very disappointed.

1.0 star rating Paula from Saint Paul, Minnesota

POOR ACTING

Yes they were nice to look at but unfortunately the acting was very subpar. I suspect this is an non union production, the same as was Fiddler on the Roof which was abysmal. I have has many great experiences at the Ordway but now am rethinking ever getting a season ticket again. The production was very difficult to sit through and I would have left during intermission if I would not have been hopeful that perhaps the second half would redeem itself - it did most definitely did NOT

I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

Awful. We left 30 minutes in. This is not an officer and a gentleman that you saw on the theaters. AwfulI want my money back.

WOKE MUSICAL

I agree with all the bad reviews. Everyone was checking their watch through the performance. The performers were good, especially with the altered storylines the performers were given It was necessary to add all the storylines regarding race and sex. Stick closer to the original script would have been better. Very disappointing!

1.0 star rating from Kansas City, Missouri

TERRIBLE

Vocals were flat, acting was awkward, we left at intermission.

1.0 star rating N DeCapua from Delray Beach, Florida

AWFUL!!

The Kravis should be ashamed and embarrassed. The show itself had no real story line. This show was a failure previously. Why would Kravis even consider such such for its patrons.
