THE BELFAST COWBOY ROCKED BOSTON!!!

Last night’s show at the BHB Pavilion in Boston was fantastic! I have seen Van over the years play at the Wang, the Opera House and on many occasions. I thought that his energy was on point- it looked like he was enjoying himself, which after playing night after night, must be difficult and exhausting! Normally his quiet sitting audience is hushed and timid but everyone was dancing, laughing and generally having a great time and enjoying the music in a non disruptive way. His band was commanded by the great band leader, sounded great and also looked to be enjoying themselves. The variety of albums he touched upon allowed for something for everyone. Overall loved it! Will always see him when he rolls into town!!!!

Always wanted to see Van Morrison, love his music and lyrics. What an amazing performance. His presence, talent, control... an evening I will never forget! Thank you Mr. Morrison for being so pure and a gift to all of us.

VAN IS THE MAN!

So pleased and happy with this concert! He played songs he hasn't played in years Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria, Wild Nights! He was in great voice and his band was phenomenal! He even let the audience sing back to him! Lol! Loved that he did Moondance and In the Garden! Lots of jazz and blues standards too! And the Broken Record song!! Loved it! The crowd was great! Met up with so many kindred spirits, all of us gushing with happiness over the playlist! Worth every penny I spent! Thanks Van and company!

VAN THE MAN

Great show at Masonic. He was energized, voice best in years. Upbeat concert with incredible band. If anyone knows who the Keyboard-horn player was post. Multi talented. Van played Sax, harmonica, and piano Best VM show in years

GREAT SHOW!

Wow! Van Morrison still has the voice - not all entertainers do at his age. He packed in the songs, with no gaps in between. No chit chat with the audience, but that's fine. It was all about the music. I liked hearing his interpretation of some American jazz/early pop classics. Wish he had done an Irish tune, but all in all, a great great show.

great show last night right place to see van.the sound was awesome. the band wastight.a few updated takes on old favorite s. new material also good. it seemed van was enjoying himself leading the band.and getting exactly the sound he wanted. 90 plus minutes of non stopback to back songs.one encore of his most loved updated version of a classic. a must see show. shana morrison opened the show and is every bit as talented as her dad. with a heavenly voice

Show was great, band was awesome, they went thur many songs, most were new, with a jazz twist. I've been waiting to see him for years and finally got the chance. Well worth the ticket price. Could watch same show again.

THANKS VAN

van was engaged and did not cheat his audience. good mix of old and new. i also have my favorites and i have never been to any concert for anybody with the volume of van morrison and get to hear everything on my favorites list. but his selection was fine and i thoroughly enjoyed the entire concert. and what a unique voice. he stands at the top of the list for true greatness

THE BEST

He was Great. If you wanted to hear his hits and favorites, stay home and play your cds. His voice is still exceptionally strong and amazing for a fellow of 45 or 50, but at 70+ it was incredible. The show was not just Van, but the orchestra he put together for the performance was tops. He played the songs the way he felt about them today, and we loved it.

VAN MORRISON AT FIDDLERS GREEN

Being in the presence of Van Morrison was magical. He keeps the music fresh - even with his standards. He and his band Are seamless, it’s a thing of beauty to watch then perform together. He gives his band their due, while being the maestro of his music. A satisfying evening - his performance was like listening to a jam and a well- constructed concert. Beautiful evening

A GREAT SHOW, SAD FOR THE INCONVENIENT VENUE

I have been to several shows at the Fiddler's Green Ampitheater over the years. This was one of the best performances I've attended. It seemed the sound was well tuned and the band with Van had a great night. His classic sound was a bit jazzed up and several of his greatest hits had a slight twist just to keep it interesting. well done. Unfortunately I cannot say any thing about Taj Mahal, as we were still standing in line waiting to get into the venue! Arriving 45 minutes early seemed reasonable to be inside to at least see Taj on stage. Not True! By the time we waited in line for nearly TWO HOURS Taj had finished and we were lucky to find a spot just in time to see Van and the band come up on stage. Great show! Thank you Van Morrison and all the band Super performance! Its may be a while, if ever that I return to Fiddlers. Very disappointed about the mess and disaster trying to get in.

VAN MORRISON AT GREEK THEATER, BERKELEY ON SEPT. 30, 2021

The four of us enjoyed Van Morrison's concert at the Greek Theatre (built in 1903) on the Berkeley campus. He and his band put on a consummate professional performance, and I enjoyed hearing some of his new songs, composed during lockdown. They are very jazz influenced, more short and clipped sounding, not the long lyric pieces of before; however, they are musically advanced, and his same personality is evident in the pithy lyrics and the tart commentary on modern state politics. I loved, especially, Ancient Highway. He gets better with age, and his voice is still true. He is a fine flawless musician, playing the harmonica and saxophone. The crowd was a beautiful group of people, loving and loyal to Van. There were young people also, and there were people my age, who've been Van fans since they were 5 yrs, and remember the wonder of the early '70's music and the times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuKHzh4zkMM This one is some years old, really now. He did one encore, an even older song, Into the Mystic, then we could see from where we were sitting, high up in the theatre, on the far left, his car waiting to take him away. He was bustled into the car, then waited to hear the love and appreciation of the crowd for a few minutes, before driving away.

FABULOUS MOVING SHOW

Van Morrison brought the house down at the Hollywood Bowl, California. The band was in top notch form. Played his new music and some old classics in Jazzy form. It was a great night Into the Mystic. He didn't disappoint after all these years. What a voice! What a talent, he blew his sax, played his harp. JUST GREAT

VAN THE MAN

Thus one understands how important Van the Man is in rock music. Going to a concert by him is like getting to a Stones or Beatles or John Lee Hooker concert. It's as good as it can possibly get.

LOVED THIS CONCERT

I've been to a lot of concerts, but this one was the best. He played nonstop and sounded better than he did on his records. This was real music. yes no big light show, no big encore, and no discussion. This is the way concerts should be. We didn't have to stand for 10 min clapping waiting for him to come back. We got our moneys worth and much more.

5.0 star rating from Chicago, Illinois

OUTSTANDING!

During the concert, my son and I both talked about his vocals. Unlike most aging musicians, Morrison' s voice is as strong as ever. He played a few songs that I did not recognize, but they were great. I don't know who the female was that sang backup, but she was amazing. I was disappointed that he did not play "Tupelo Honey" or "Into the Mystic," but I still loved the concert. If you have never been to the Chicago theater, it is a must!

VAN MORRISON GETS BETTER WITH EACH NEW TOUR

When Van Morrison takes the stage he has no relationship with the audience. He controls every minute of the performance from start to finish. Having said that there are few artists of any genre who can compare to him. He continues to evolve musically incorporating long spoken word messages into his music, using his voice and musical timing to deliver each song as a mini masterpiece. The best thing is he never relies on his most famous songs to carry the show. As a matter of fact the hits we all knew, like Brown Eyed Girl and Wild Night were not the highlight moments. Latest Record Project and Raincheck highlighting his new work "I don't fade away unless I want to." No one wants him to, ever! Maybe the best thing was the combination of his voice which continues to improve not lose any quality and the arrangements and the consummate professionalism of the band make this live performance superior to his recorded music. Not many artists can to make that claim. Keep coming back!

VAN MORRISON ROCKED BOSTON!

What a great show! I’ve always loved Van Morrison and was very excited to see him. He did not disappoint! The venue was great, it was a beautiful night. Really was hoping to hear into the Mystic but I’ll take what I can get. It was a fun date night! Would definitely see him again ❤️

EVERYTHING I HOPED FOR

He works hard to please the audience! His voice is in top form, and he loves putting a little new spin on old favorites, BUT, his newer stuff is great. His sax playing is outstanding, and at Tanglewood tonight, he rocked the sox off everyone! No one like him!

5.0 star rating Cynthia Breen from West Hartford, CT

WORKING ON MY BUCKET LIST

I love this man and his music!! I have always wanted to see him in concert, so when he announced his concert at Tanglewood, I was thrilled! He played some new songs, many old songs, one right after another. He was amazing!!

GREAT AND WHAT I EXPECTED

We saw Van Morrison last night and as I did read reviews prior I tried to prepare by listening to his newer music quite a bit and looking for what he might be playing. His newer music is good and as an artist of course after all of these years they have many songs! They can’t just play all of the hits! They want to promote what they like and play now. When I used to buy albums I listened to the entire album and now it’s the same as when I listen to streamed music I listen to all of it! You have to appreciate the artist for what they like to play, write, as well as for all of their history and the big hits! It was a great concert, great musicians, and I hope Van Morrison comes back to Phoenix to a smaller venue for more dates like at The MIM!

VAN IS THE MAN IN BAKKT THEATER

Saw Van in Bakkt theater 9/6 it was fantastic in every way. I would have love a few more of his older songs but what he put down could not have been any better. His band and back up singers, his voice and playing were absolutely top notch. It was on my bucket list to see Van and we were celebrating my 67th Birthday.

VAN MORRISON TRANSCENDENT1

At the very last minute I scored a ticket to the 9/12 concert of Van Morrison's 3 sold-out shows at the SFJAZZ Center. It had been a life-long dream to see him live and I was thrilled it was going to be in the Miner Auditorium which seats a max of 700 and has great acoustics. My expectations, which were very high, were met and then exceeded. Majority of the show was based on his new skiffle album and was warm, upbeat and brilliantly executed by him and his crackerjack band. Toward the end he included a little other material and ended the show with a real blast from the past - "Gloria" from his early days with Them. The audience adored him, clearly with the exception of the people from Dallas who wrote such a bizarre negative review. I can only say that Van the Man is a genius, you can't expect him to do oldies when is is constantly innovating musically, which he is famous for, and as an audience member for someone of his stature, you have to learn to evolve along with him. He never does encores and has never been known as a sort of Mr. Personality" onstage. Instead, he is 100% focused on the music and on delivering a great musical performance. It was one of the greatest concert experience sof my life and I am filled with gratitude.

VAN THE MAN!

Drove up from OC to check out Van at the intimate Santa Barbara Bowl. For the whiners here who were disappointed with the show here or elsewhere, oh well! If you go to a Van Morrison show expecting to see a greatest hits show, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. The dude has written hundreds of songs over the past 55+ years so why would you expect him to play only a handful? Also, Van is a bandleader and quite the versatile musician, as evidenced by the sax, guitar and harmonica he played. He’s also a noted curmudgeon and rarely interacts with the audience. And what a band, several of whom have played with him for decades. The first part of the show featured terrific takes on the skiffle songs on his latest disc, then his own I’ve Been Working and a Sam Cooke number before he ran through his spiritual-themed songs, with a wonderful version of Into The Mystic. A rousing version of Gloria topped it off, followed by a close out by the band as Van exited, a normal part of his routine. If you haven’t heard any of the songs he’s written since the early 1970s, shame on you. At 78, that distinctive voice still resonates.

STILL HAS IT GOING

Great Great concert, Van sounded great and showed us he can still rock the instruments he played. The band was great and they gave us the old and the new sounds. So glad we saw him and his band. Thank you Van Morrison

GREAT CONCERT

Van and his awesome band delivered last night. His voice was strong and he performed something for everyone. Old and new. Loved “Cleaning Windows”! His band was unbelievable. So so talented. They all seemed to enjoy playing as much as us. Van was his usual “ all business”, but all about the music is fine with me. We had excellent seats which was a total surprise to us. Seen Van several times and this was on e of the best. I’d go Sunday night if I had a ticket.

VAN MORRISON IS STILL THE MAN

We flew to Vegas to see one of our all time idols, and much to our delight, Van Morrison proved he is still the man. Van played for about an hour and a half. His venue mixed with Jazz and a sprinkling of old favorites. Anyone worried that at Van's age he may be losing his voice can be rest assured that he still sounds smooth as butter, at least to this old fan's ears. The only reason I give four stars is because I just wish it would have gone on longer. When he left the stage his band continue to play for awhile. We thought he would come back for an encore, but he never did. He left us wanting more... Maybe this was all part of his plan. Great show overall.

GREAT SEATS....LITTLE DISSAPPOINTED

Was there last night. Did enjoyed show...but don't expect any personal connection. He's on works hard sounds great. Looks FANTASTIC. Not any of my favorites sung. New stuff. Lots of individual playing and good solos. I would go again only if it was all the old stuff

HE SANG GREAT WITH STYLE

Van’s voice was in full swing. A bluesy, jazzy set and I loved it. True, he played only 5 or 6 of his best known tunes. But he was in great form! Just watching him get into some beer tunes was a joy to watch. I’d much rather watch an artist play tunes he was really feeling than Tun through an old list that doesn’t have the same spark for him. Several tunes were highlights of the show that I had not heard. Raincheck comes to mind. Out of 21 songs, I counted 7 I was familiar with and I don’t have all his albums. There are so many! I agree I would have loved a couple more songs well known. As far as low audience interaction and leaving the stage, he’s known for that. He’s a true artist and that’s what he gives us. I’ll take it!

VAN MORRISON HOLLYWOOD HARD ROCK

See Tom Shannon review below NO MOONDANCE !! Just walked off, during GLORIA and extended solo break... Kinda Weird That said, he was amazing with "tight" although strangely assembled band. The set up is so close nobody can see them, and he doesn't introduce them. Ideally, a smaller venue is needed. Video screens at HardRock obsolete. See this review also.... JUST OKAY.... Saw Van in Virginia last night. I've always loved his music, and that's still dynamite! We were in 20th row, and could see nothing due to poor stage set up. Everything/Everybody bunched in a ball in the middle of the huge stage when they could have been spread out so we could see these people. I searched today to try to find out who his 2018 tour band members are, and there is no recognition of them that I can find. Disappointing because the only one I could really see, was the female on percussions who was amazing. ALL of them were amazing, but who are they? All of them hidden in a tight group behind big speakers which blocked the view while totally unnecessary. 2/3 of the stage was empty! Morrison never acknowledged his band, nor the audience. No encore. He just split before the last song which his incognito band completed. It was weird. The music was fantastic, but make sure you have extreme front center seats or you won't be able to see much. Super poor set-up design

DISAPPOINTING SOUND

Band was great, Vocals should have been more prominent in the mix, overall volume should have been louder (and I never say that) thought it was a muted. The Pavilion needs to get some K-2s and Mr. Morrison should look for a new FOH engineer. Also the camera director had trouble figuring out who was playing the solos, which also should have been featured more prominently. Was really looking forward to the show, left unfulfilled. Sorry Van.

LIVE SHOW BITES

Average rating. Music a 5, presentation 0. I"d been told he doesn't care what his audience thinks or wants to hear, but down from AK I came for the Tues. night show. His daughter opened and was wonderful. She even gave accolades to the bass player, which was more than Van did. Yup, no chit chat, he just pumped out one song after another without any time to savor each one in between. He didn't even introduce the band. I felt sorry for the band members, but they must be paid well. Put down the guitar and hurry up to pick up another for the next song. Put down the trumpet and hurry over to the keyboard for the next tune. Let's see how fast we can get this over with, is what I thought. Maybe jet lag from being in Europe? No encore, Tues. He was actually booed at the end. The venue has great acoustics, and the staff were all pleasant. I had a mid balcony seat and had plenty of room. I would never pay to see a show of his, again, even if the songs were great.

HELLO VAN, REMEMBER US, THE AUDIENCE?

A highly anticipated concert we paid $$$ to see. Love his music, his style, his decades-long dedication to artistry, but still disappointed by Wednesday's show. I'd heard Van can be less than engaging in live performance. That turned out to be the case. A string of jazzy tunes and subdued versions of too few hits didn't reach the audience. He clearly wanted to deliver a clubby, comfortable set, but Van Morrison's appeal comes from his rousing soulful hits. Sorry, Van, you gotta give the folks what they came for.

Looked forward to hearing some hit tunes but sadly only 2 and have I told you lately was not original! Came a long way with expectations that sadly didn’t measure up. No encore. No engagement from Van for his audience.

TERRIBLE GATE MANAGEMENT AND A SHORT SHOW

Caesar’s did an awful job of managing ticket-holder entry into the venue. We were there at 7:30pm and did not get thru the gates until 8:15pm, and Van started playing right at 8pm. Terrible event management. There were hundreds of people in the same boat. Van was great, but for the price of the ticket, he played 1 hour and 23 minutes. Some a*hole was in our seats, had to get them moved...so really saw about 55 minutes of the concert. I’ve seen Van a coupe of times. He is my favorite singer, but this performance and evening was sub-par at best.

MY FAVORITE MUSICIAN BUTCHERED HIS OWN SONGS!

I’m 45 and Van has been my favorite musician since I was in high school. I spent $800 and gave up parenting time w my son on a night I had him so that I could finally see Van Morrison in concert which has been a dream of mine for years. His energy was so low, zero connection w the audience, and then he absolutely butchered his own music on several songs be having completely rewritten the rhythm to make them jazzy in a very choppy manner, Including my all time favorite “into the mystic” which took me a full minute to even recognize as being that song. On a positive note, he was dressed dapper and did a nice job playing the sax and harmonica. However, his band stole the show at the end when Van left the stage and put on the best performance of the night.

MIXED

Was so excited to see him. Overall, he sounds great. Unfortunatrly, he played none of his hits in the one hit that he played, Moondance didn’t even sound like the song. The band appeared to wake up at the end of the evening which was a shame for they were excellent. Also sad that he never acknowledged his band but they had to repeatedly say his name.

3.0 star rating Danny Archambault from Los Angeles, California

CONCERT

He sounded good but had no dialogue with fans; just sang. He changed the tempi on some songs and changed the familiar sound the fans were looking for. His hype man (pianist) kept saying Van Morrison and I think Van was waiting for the roars from the audience to beg him to come out. Apparently the cheers were not loud enough and he did not return but left his band awkwardly playing. The crowd was let down as he failed to sing a couple very popular songs. Time to hang it up.....

MISSED THE OLD STUFF

Went to Santa Barbara Bowl Oct 3, 2021. Van Morrison still has the great voice and energy to captivate his followers. I went expecting to hear the classics I’ve cherished for 40 years- Into the Mystic, Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance etc. but instead, most of the evening featured songs that I was hearing for the first time. He did sing some of the classics but the arrangements were different. The last 10-15 minutes was dedicated to the good old stuff including Gloria, which brought everyone to their feet cheering and singing along. We left the bowl energized with the good old stuff but wishing there were more of the Van Morrison we grew up on.

Six of us flew to La from the Midwest to see Van Morrison. This has been a bucket list concert for years. His voice is still strong but the first few songs were boring and he didn’t sing Have I told you lately, Brown eyed girl and Moondance… we regretted making the effort and spending megabucks. . Come on Van, you may be sick of these songs but we love them!

WISH HE’D PLAYED MORE HITS

I was really looking forward to this show but was disappointed for a couple of reasons. He only played 5 of his well known songs. He didn’t play Moondance, Into the Mystic, Crazy Love, or Tupelo Honey. Also the crowd at Ruth Eckerd Hall was very disrespectful. Talking loudly throughout the show and constantly getting up to get alcohol.

MIXED REVIEW

Wished he played more of his popular hits, but the man still sounds great after all these years. Took him about 30 minutes to get his vibe going and start to sound like the Van Morrison I used to hear growing up Band was ok. would have been better had they spread out more on such a large stage. The backup singer was amazing! Venue was fantastic for sound. Not a bad seat in the house. I will definitely come back.

3.0 star rating Jim from Chicago, Illinois

FRUSTRATED

I saw Van Morrison last night in Chicago. I was surprised that he preferred to play covers of other artists rather than some of his most popular hits and generally regarded fan favorites! The highlight of the show was the long and highly energetic version of Gloria, that ended up sounding like an extended jam session highlighting the individual of his mega-talented band and vocalist! Unfortunately, during most of this song he was off stage and never even returned to the stage to at least take a final bow and thank his fellow musicians.

3.0 star rating TSP from Chicago, Illinois

DISAPPOINTED

At this stage in his career I think many of his concert goers are expecting a good number of his more popular hits - more like a greatest hit concert. He played only 3-4 more widely recognized songs. Missing: Have I told you lately, Crazy Love, Into the Mystic, Moondance, etc. Really unfortunate. Without those more recognizeable songs one song just blended into the next. This was a setlist for a Ravinia lawn seat not the premium we paid for good seats at the Chicago Theater. Also don't understand how a concert ends without Van Morrison on the stage?? His band was great and loved that they were featured but that shouldn't have ended the show. He should have come back out after this and done a couple of encore songs that everyone was waiting for him to do. Disappointed.

VAN MORRISON

We were very excited to see Van Morrison. I heard some positive and negative comments. What id like to add is he looked tired and weak. . Very little movement. The saxophone performance was very good. He had a hard time reading the lyrics off the paper. He was disconnected from the crowd. He finally played a few popular songs. Mostly a jazzy blues inaudible words for most of the performance We were 2nd row. He left after 1hour and 35min. We all thought he would come back and to a finally. He didn't. It was sad and disappointing.. We still love and respect him and his music 🎶 .It just felt like he didn't see us. Most expensive and disappointing concert of our life .

GOOD, BUT NOT NEARLY GOOD ENOUGH--AND VAN DON'T GIVE A DAMN

Reading over reviews from other concerts elsewhere, Detroit was apparently better than most, but not nearly good enough (and Van makes clear he doesn't really care what the audience thinks). The band was good, and Van's voice & vocalizations were fine, but he most did jazzy/blues stuff that sounded pretty much the same and which the audience wasn't much interested in. They wanted to hear his hits, and he delivered some, but not many. He wasn't hostile to the crowd, rather indifferent. He seemed to enjoy himself and sometimes encouraged the crowd to sing along, which is more than usual. He NEVER introduced the band and or spoke to the audience, but he gave a two-song encore ("Brown-Eyed Girl" and "Gloria," which, again is better than often--last time I saw him NO encore and concert lasted only an hour--in Detroit he performed for 1 1/2 hours before leaving the stage without a word, while the band did an incredible 20-minute glorious riff on Gloria--actually the best part of the evening. Van never returned!

SAD

Love Van Morrison. My mom was from Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He sounded great, but it was so disappointing to wait for my favorite song (Moon Dance) and find out he would not sing it and walked off 15 minutes before the end and not return only to leave the band to pick up the pieces. The band saved the show for him. Too much money for too little. It was very disrespectful to his fans and Brown Eyed Girl was a disappointment. It sounded like an imposter.

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED

Always been a fan but never seen live. Was excited but disappointed by the performance There was no transition pause between songs, no interaction with the audience and every single song was done fast paced even songs that were originally a slower ballad style. His voice was still great and the band top notch but it felt like a large scale new or leans blue/jazz band the entire concert. It ended with him handing off the stage to let the musicians each do solos and he never came back. Also lacked some if the classics his song list had at other venues. For the cost it was meh

TOO SHORT FOR MY LIKING

I paid to see Van Morrison - and paid a lot - and he sounded great and played some of his better known songs - but the short concert left me feeling like I got cheated. Had I paid 1/2 the price, the "half a concert" would have been fine. Fortunately it was a beautiful night under the pavilion. Too bad he didn't play Moondance. :( Disappointed.

VAN WAS GREAT, UNTIL HE WASN’T

Van played a bunch of great bluesy, jazzy tunes and got the crowd rockin. Was feeling really good. Then, at about 90 mins in, he exited stage right to let the band jam for a while during Gloria. The band finished the song, walked off the stage, and the lights came on. Van never came back, never took a bow, never said thank you, NOR played Moondance or Into the Mystic. What kind of egomaniac just walks off the stage in the middle of the show?!? Glad I saw him, I think?!?

VAN MORRISON IN SAN DIEGO

VAN MORRISON and band played well, but failed to cover songs from the 60s which many folks in the audience wanted to hear.

DISAPPOINTMENT

Always wanted to see him. Love the venue, Van Morrision's voice is still amazing, fellow musicians were awesome. Disappointment because he did not play any classic songs (domino, tupalo honey, brown eyed girl, etc), played from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM only. Walked off stage about ten till 9, let the band finish up Gloria, and that was it. He never address his audience from the start, no at the end. For the $1,000 price tag on this event, very disappointed.

DISAPPOINTED

I really love Van Morrisons music but this show was disappointing at the Las Vegas Bakkt theater in September 2023. . For the first hour he played unknown bluegrass type songs that were ok at best. The last 1/2 hour he play more familiar tunes but very few of his hits. A good portion of the time he had his back to the audience. He had no audience interaction. The band was good but not suited for a stage this large. Also the sound mixer was bad.

His voice is excellent. His band was actually his selection of songs that he sang sucked. No hits from the past. Just played what he wanted. Not what got him there. Go back home and retire please

NO BROWN EYED GIRL?

The show was really just okay. He found the time to sing Gloria, but no Brown Eyed Girl, which was all that my wife really wanted to hear him sing. It was a Sunday night, maybe he got tired or ran out of time (the show went from 8 PM to 9:30 PM), but there's really no excuse for denying his fans a live performance of that song

CHICAGO THEATRE LAST NIGHT

Waited my whole life to see Van Morrison. His band was fantastic. Had heard that he was indifferent to his audience, but last night he seemed engaged and into his music. Unfortunately his voice is 73 years old and it shows. Had I not known the lyrics to all of his music it would have been unintelligible. Tickets were expensive and quite frankly I was disappointed.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT AT GREEK THEATER

O.K., I get that musicians maybe get tired of playing old songs, but really? Only old familiar songs were Brown Eyed Girl and Gloria...and those were his encore songs. First part was lots of swing/scat, which after three songs, all sounded the same. He did do jazzy, upbeat rendition of Moondance and Have I told you lately That I love you. This concert was more that 50% of listening to extremely long, drawn out instrumental solos by his band. After encore, his band was still playing, leading audience to believe he would return again. 18 minutes later--nope, lights went on and everyone looked at each other, saying WTF, that's it?? Have never, ever heard so much negativity from unhappy disappointed people at a concert ever. Save your money. He phoned it in....do him the same favor.

I LEFT SAD & DISAPPOINTED

It felt like I’ve waited all my life for this concert, I was so excited to be there and to finally have a dream come true. However, as the night progressed I realized it wasn’t going to be the concert I had dreamt of. He played some type of jazz music and hardly any hit songs and the hit songs he did play were unrecognizable versions. It wasn’t until the encore did we hear a few songs that sounded familiar. I was so sad and disappointed. When he played my favorite song, “Have I told you lately that I love you”, I didn’t even recognize it. It was as if I paid a lot of money to go to a concert by someone I had never heard of. Van didn’t seem to care if you came to his concert to hear his popular songs, he was playing for himself. Santa Barbara Bowl is a great venue though and the night was beautiful!

INTO THE MYSTIC

What a disappointment. He never played his top 10 hits. I was waiting to hear Into the Mystic sure he was going to play it. I can’t hardly write the review I was so disappointed thank goodness for a good friend that I was with that made the night memorable nonetheless but he played a little known songs just to disappoint the whole crowd who never set up for the whole thing. If you’ve never seen him live and wanted to hear one of his more popular songs don’t waste your money he won’t pay it he did play days like this and a short bit of brown eyed girl that was it

VAN MORRISON CONCERT/RUTH ECKERD HALL/$/21/2022

I was so excited and anxiously awaiting the postponed Valentine gift from my love...a Van Morrison concert One of my all time favorites!!! it was a great disappointment!!!Before the concert started we met people that had come from all around the U S to see this iconic guy. One couple had flown here to Clearwater from Mississippi...the wife had missed her 50th high school reunion to see this great musician All he played was new???music. you couldnt even understand the words he was singing and he was reading the words he sung. I will say the musicians and backup singers were great and his voice was pretty awesome, but other than that i really despise the word suck, but this was such a let down!!!!!It truly sucked a big one and the worst part about it was that not only did it suck, we spent a fortune on the tickets to see one of the worst concerts I have ever attended!!!!Sorry Van...Next time you cancel a concert dont reschedule it!!!!!!!And he never played any of his old beautiful songs when we left the concert i was in tears.

DISCONNECTED VAN

So disappointed in the concert. I get that musicians wanna play their new stuff but the first 10 songs sounded exactly the same. He only introduced one band member and walked off the stage during Gloria. Just weird. My sister and I laughed on our way out... in her mind it would've been an enjoyable concert outside in a lawnchair with no entry charge. For me it would've been a good show that I stumbled upon in the basement of a jazz bar in New Orleans with a $20 cover charge. Instead it was a $145 ticket and I didn't even get to hear into the mystic. My first and last Van Morrison concert.

GREAT MUSICIAN, POOR ENTERTAINER

I saw a long anticipated Van Morrison concert at a great venue in Clearwater Fl. The songs and music were outstanding. The quality and breadth of his musical talent was undeniable. The show contained songs from across is long career but focused primarily on his newer music. His performance, though, was extremely lack luster. Seemed the band had all they could do to keep up with the pace of play as they scrambled to keep up with between song instrument and sheet music changes. I also found his total lack of audience contact to be off putting. When investing the time and money required to attend a concert I expect more. Van Morrison proved he is a great musician. He also proved he is a poor entertainer. Unfortunately I left the show feeling I could have had a better time listening to his music at home. I recommend if you want to enjoy a Van Morrison musical experience save your money and listen to his CD's.

WORST CONCERT EVER

I spent more than I should have on the tickets. The reviews that describe his rushing the concert are accurate. He never acknowledged the audience or his band. Most of the songs were reworked into jazz arrangements which butchered the few hits he played. Don't waste your time or money thinking this will be your post covid return to live music.

OK AT BEST AT THE FOX

Saw the show last night at the Fox in Detroit. The band was very good. Really tight and had some great jam moments. VM was vocally OK for the most part, and I give him credit for his horn and harmonica play. His set list leaves a lot to be desired for the average VM fan, which represents about 90% of the audience based upon what I saw last night. Everyone sat there during most songs wondering what was being played, and then went nuts for any of his older, more widely known hits. I know he is up there in age, but he engaged 0% with the audience and just rolled from song to song with nothing (including no band introduction) in between. Likewise, he certainly doesn't move much during the show either. Singer only, noty an entertainer at all. I won't waste the time or energy to see him again if he tours in the future and I wish I hadn't decided to get tickets to this show. This was the first show that I ever saw where the main entertainer exited the stage 10 minutes before the show ended. VM left the stage while the band (very nicely) jammed the ending to Gloria. Bizarre, but not worth the time. Sorry!

DISMAL

Most folks go to a concert to hear the songs they know and love from an artist. Van Morrison has been around for a long time and has a huge catalog of well loved songs - most of which he did not play. He played a lot of new, unrecognizable material of which most of the songs flowed from one to another - sounded like one long, long run on song. He still has a very, very good voice. We had read he had zero charisma and absolutely no engagement with the audience - that is entirely true. I don't know what we were thinking..... we had read some of the reviews that echoed what I'm writing right now. Guess I thought because he is up there in years and we have never seen him that this was a bucket list item. Hugely disappointing. Should have listened to the reviews (and my husband). On a bright note, his opener War and Treaty were wonderful.

VAN MORRISON PHONING IT IN

for these seasoned musicians a blues gig is a walk in the park. Van hid behind his mic singing off key on songs he should be humming in his sleep. left early near the end. not a single hit till that point in the evening. opening act was weak and sloppy. saw Van several times over the 40 years and I believe it's time to hang up his hat. his hit are still legend.

NOT WORTH IT

My wife and two friends paid a total of $1,200 to hear 3 songs that made Van Morrison famous. Give the crowd what they want, or don't take their hard earned money. Why do musicians do this!?

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Saw him at Tanglewood. Sold out and raining. Kicked off with a great rendition of Dangerous. It went downhill from there. I know he likes to mix things up in his live shows and can be unpredictable but I didn't come to listen to 12 bar blues and midtempo jazz all evening. I have seen numerous authentic blues acts from across the US play when I worked with an agency that booked clubs/concerts in the 80's - I didnt attend to hear him reinterpret those tunes. We left before the encore. I should have gone the night prior to see Richard Thompson who is always fantastic and should be much more well known.

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Absolutely sucked! Everything I've read about him proved more than accurate. A true curmudgeon. Only reason I gave the review 2 stars was his crack band and backup vocalist. My advice is if you haven't purchased tickets- DON'T - and if you have, get rid of them on the resale market.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. LAS VEGAS 10/7/2023

Van Morrison has always been one of my favorite performers and it has been a dream of mine to see him live. But after this performance I would not walk across the street to see him for free. Although the music he played was good he did not play any of his hit songs. No (Brown Eyed Girl). No Tupelo Honey. No into the Mystic. no crazy love. He had no crowd interaction. Never even acknowledged his fans supporting him. Never introduced his band. At the end of his performance he walked out off the stage in the middle of a song and never return. Audience tried to bring him back for an encore but to no avail. If this is the way van Morrison feels about his fan base I’m afraid no one’s going to come and listen to him. I know I won’t spend a dime for a performance like this. I gotcha a lot of concerts this year seeing Paul McCartney Jefferson Starship Pat Benatar John Fogerty which were all good. This was the worst!

HORRIBLE!

I've been a life long fan of Van Morrison, and was so excited to finally be able to see him at the SB County Bowl. Set list was mainly old blues songs and 2-3 Van Morrison originals that were re-written and barely recognizable. Last song was Gloria and Van walked off stage and jumped into a big Mercedes and left a full 10 minutes before the band ended without any acknowledgement that the crowd was there!! It was the worst concert I've ever been to. Learned a valuable lesson to check reviews before purchasing tickets from now on.

Gosh, have waited all my life to see him finally! Came across country! Knew there was a new Album with songs that are repetitious! But have never been to a concert, where, the audience was never acknowledged, and actually made to feel like, maybe the person had better things to do. He never once said thank you! To the 7000 people that spent good money! To be there! The one classic he sang, he left mid song!!!! Then let the band and back up singers finish!! Never saw saw him again!! No Hi Bye or Kiss my ass! His voice is so strong!! Why would he not sing some classic songs mixed with the new? Everyone was disappointed!

I waited to long to be able to catch van morrison and tonight i am returning from the greek theater after hearing him. What a rip off. After an hour of songs i never heard of, he sang Gloria and walked off the stage never to return or play any of his hits, brown eye girl, moondance, etc. Mondance was my late brothers favorite song and i went kind in homage to him. Mr. Morrison decided it wasn['t worth his time and left us all sitting listening to his band do solos expecting him to return. He did not and everyone i spoke to left disappointed. Never went to a concert where the artist didn't do his hits.

VAN PLAYED NEW MUSIC BUT NOT FOR THE FANS

After reading many negative reviews sadly I have to agree , and I'm someone who if stuck on an island only had one artist to listen to would be Van Morrison. I understand artists pushing new material but you can't forget what got you there. Only 3 maybe 4 recognizable songs and didn't sound like the way they were recorded. If you want to try new stuff do it for $25 tickets not $150 plus, the old stuff is worth that not the new. I do like country music but a country style lead guitarist, who is an excellent musician, but it's not the VM we all know and love. The musicians are top rated, but the song list is very disappointing. I would recommend passing on this tour, save your $ for the Stones, Daryl Hall, Bonnie Rait, or Smokey Robinson, they still play for their fans.

HORRIBLE

First I must say - we were warned this was not going to be a good experience. Obviously I ignored the comment. We grew up listening to Van Morrison. We attended his concert with another couple. The concert was absolutely horrendous. We were on the 4th row so we had a bird’s eye view. His words were jumbled and the music was 99.9% scat. It was SO WEIRD. He played two of his hits. Just two. Van doesn’t acknowledge his audience. He acted like he could not wait to get off the stage. He does not acknowledge his band either. I felt bad for them but not as bad as I felt for us. It was the worst concert we have ever seen and we have seen over 150. I would not waste a dime to see this guy. Still shaking my head.

HEART BROKEN

I havent been to Fiddlers in about 20 years and was completely disappointed by the lack of organization; we came to see Taj and completely missed his set! It felt like the venue sold more tickets than there was space. Waiting in a line so long causing half the audience to miss the first set is just wrong! I arrived at 5:30 for a 7 o’clock show, entering lawn seating with absolutely no room for us. The vibe felt like crashing a party we weren’t invited to. After some of the hardest times of my life, I was more than ready to dance and have my heart cradled by Taj Mahal’s musical gift. Hope I can see Taj soon.

VAN MORRISON HOLLYWOOD BOWL

What a disappointment- have grown up listening to his music and know most of the lyrics. The atmosphere was perfect to have a much anticipated wonderful night. Van comes on and his first song sang about how he wasn’t going to sing his old songs. Now I had read the reviews and reviewed his song list but I hoped he would come through with his songs that everyone came to hear. He sang excerpts of 3 songs!! Only 3!!! And he sang them so fast like he couldn’t wait to stop singing them. I have never been so disappointed at any concert and I have seen many. Don’t waste your money! Believe all the reviews- you will be disappointed!!

VAN @ THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL - DISASTER

What a waste of time the audience only politely responded. Why bother to play if your not listening to the fans who have supported you over the years. It will take me a long time if ever to listen to a Van Morrison song without thinking of the better songs I could of heard live.

WORST SHOW EVER

Have always loved VM but Saturday at the Bowl was a huge disappointment. He has changed his style completely- sounded more like big band Jazz. Most of the set list was comprised of new stuff and it was hard to sit through as we hoped he would do something from the era that made him famous. Even when he did old hits like Into The Mystik, it was done in this new style so barely recognized the song. His voice is still good but as the evening progressed, he sang louder and louder until it felt like he was just yelling into his mic! This is rumored to be his last tour and based upon Saturday’s performance, one can only hope that is true!
