Worth the trip
I make a point of seeing The Nutcracker every year it's possible, no matter what city I’m in. Over the years, I’ve watched performances in several cities and countries, and Ballet Arizona’s interpretation truly stood out. Their storytelling made the ballet easy to follow, even for those unfamiliar with the plot. The dancers were exceptional and kept the audience fully engaged from start to finish. It’s absolutely worth the trip downtown to experience it.
Great performances by the orchestra and ballet dancers
The Nutcracker is a beautiful adaptation of the classic Christmas story. The ballet dancers are hypnotic to watch and the orchestra is top notch. Combined they make for a great holiday performance. I would recommend it to anyone of any age.
Underwhelming
Sadly the Nutcracker performed by Ballet Arizona is very underwhelming. The price of tickets is high for one. There is no set decorations. And I mean none. I remember watching the Nutcracker and Clara would go through the beautiful lands in the sleigh and it was magical. Ballet AZ…not so much. The big fight between the Nutcracker and the Rat King was boring! No swords & very little action. The Nutcracker stabs the Rat King with an invisible pretend sword and the Rat King dies. The end. The whole point of the Nutcracker is for him to fight for Clara and defeat the Rat King! It’s a big deal. A big fight sequence! Very dramatic! This show had none of that. The dancing was pretty but with out ANY set decoration it wasn’t at magical as it should have been. Over all a very Meh show. Underwhelming and disappointing. I think they might need a new director or something because the show they have now will have you falling asleep in your expensive seat.
