Chicago - The Musical

Chicago - The Musical at Phoenix Theatre

Why see Chicago - The Musical?

THE BROADWAY SMASH COMES TO PHEONIX!

Get on your glad rags and head to the theatre for a scintillating musical feast of jazz and femme fatales, Chicago the Musical is in town! Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart will set the stage alight in Phoenix's revival of the Broadway classic, starting the Phoenix Theatre's 96th season in style. The original production first made waves on the Great White Way in 1975 and continues to be its second longest running show. Now it's in the capable hands of artistic director Michael Barnard and ready to keep audiences mesmerised with it's simmering tale of fame, fortune and a whole lot of seduction!

WHAT IS CHICAGO ABOUT?

Set largely in the confines of the Women's Block in Cook County Jail, Chicago follows the headline grabbing stories of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, both on trial and both guilty. But with the help of hotshot lawyer Billy Flynn and a certain makeover of the truth, each woman has a chance at acquittal, giving the jury, and audience, the ol' Razzle Dazzle. Sparks fly, however, when Hart and Kelly cross paths and find themselves in a war for the spotlight of media attention and public sympathy.

5.5 Stars! So many legs broken

This cast was amazing, from their timing, to their energy, to their enthusiasm. Nothing is more thrilling than watching talent at the highest levels do what they do better than most others - the detail of the performances were incredible. And, the band!!... beautiful renditions of jazz-on brass. To sum it up in the spirit of all considerations..."Roxy Hart, to love you and die at your hand is better than to have never loved you at all. Mary me Roxy Hart, Mary me!" :) ... Read more
